about the author

James Tweddle is an 87-year-old ex-teacher. Though a long-time lover of poetry, until his 87th birthday he had never previously written poems of any kind, especially for children. Since turning 87, he has composed more than seventy poems for children, which seemed to come to mind quite easily without ‘too much beating about in the bush.’Most of his poems are accompanied by coloured illustrations drawn by James himself. As he himself says, ‘In the midst of composing, my computer crashed. What a tragedy, as I must be now about the worst hand-writer in Australia. Luckily, repairs were quickly made. Thank goodness for computers and clever technicians!’
